Nokia’s N800 & N810 – Overshadowed by iPhone December 17, 2007

People wanted more about Apple’s iPhone, wanted to know the possible capabilities of the dubbed “Jesusphone” but really, people don’t know about hidden gems in the Tech Industry. There are other more effective products, yes there are, in terms of connectivity, productivity and usability.nokia-n800-1.jpg

Nokia’s N800 and N810 are such “gems” in the market, my friend introduced me to Nokia’s newly developed Internet Tablet, please keep in mind, this is NOT a phone but a device which allows users to be connected to the Internet as well as use the multimedia capabilities of the device.

These are some of the main features of these devices:

  • Linux Based Operating System (No more symbian OS)
  • Rotating Webcam for Internet Chat using Google Talk & Skype
  • Built-in MP3 Software as well as Divx capabilities
  • On screen keyboard for N800, while the onscreen keyboard as well as a slide-down keyboard for the N810
  • Built-in GPS in the N810 version
  • User can use their fingertips and the provided stylus pen for better input accuracy.
  • Built in native Opera Browser with flash capabilities (Beat that iPhone!)

As you can see, this list is very impressive, especially in Nokia’s part as this is a a big step into mobile communication. There are various youtube videos in which I will be including later this week, but just to let you know, some review companies tested the Google Talk & Skype feature of the N800 and I was very impressed.

Prices are as follows, in expansys.ca (Canadian Mobile Device Seller) the Nokia N800 was priced at CDN$279.99 while the N810 was roughly about CDN$450-499 (Priced higher because of the slide-down keyboard and built-in GPS). If you consider that these are Nokia devices, the prices aren’t as bad as you think. It is a pretty well-designed device with alot of capabilities, which will kick start the touch-screen race for the ultimate “Jesusphone.” LOL

CNET rates Microsoft Vista – “Worst Tech Product of 2007” December 17, 2007

It is clear that Microsoft Vista….. oh let me rephrase, Microsoft Vista Basic, Microsoft Vista Premium, Microsoft Vista Business and lastly, Microsoft Vista Ultimate….. is not good… at all. Microsoft dubbed it “the next wow” but how? Problems and user issues plagued Vista in a big way, Microsoft and their big reputation did not want to address these issues, and this lead to the lack of stability of the hyped operating system. Microsoft’s big problem did not end there, knowing that Apple’s Mac OSX 10.5 (Leopard) was being prepared for launch, they did not counteract to leopard in anyway, resulting in high sales for Apple and mediocre sales and reviews of Microsoft Vista. top-10-terrible-technologies-10.jpg

I have personally used Vista and to me, it is a more graphically enhanced version of Mac OSX Tiger (10.4), but Apple’s already been there and Microsoft thinks that they can fool the consumer market by releasing their version of Tiger… oh sorry Vista.

Vista’s main problems during it’s young timeline includes, lack of compatibility of external software and drivers, the high capability of the system in terms of hardware and lastly, the unexplained reason why there are “four” different types of operating systems. Obviously there are different user requirements of operating systems, but really, as consumers do we really need these kinds of variations????

I am surely not surprised about the fact that Vista was s huge disappointment for consumers, and a waste for Microsoft and their OS development team. Microsoft has indeed realized it by already doing research and development for the new Windows 7. At least they are moving on and hopefully not follow the mistakes they have made in Vista.

There is still hope for Microsoft, but at the rate Apple is conquering the Tech Industry, who knows how the market is going to be months from now, let alone, years.

Finally! Signs of Video Recording on Jesusphone.

gizmodo.com writes:

“The geniuses from Monster and Friends have created an iPhone application which can record video up to 45 frames per second. They are still working in the final version, but to give you a taste they have published Drunknbass, a beta which records 5 seconds of video at 10 fps with a resolution of 2 megapixels. I’ve tested and it works perfectly. It doesn’t have any interface, so you just download it, put it in your iPhone’s Applications folder, click on the button and it will start recording.

When Drunknbass is finished with the five seconds recording it will replay the clip once. The final application will be able to record unlimited-sized clips (only constrained by your available space) up to 30 frames per second and it will have an interface to save your clips (they are looking for developers to help with the graphical side of the software).”

This is great news for iPhone users, as this confirms that HD video recording works flawlessly with the technical specifications of the iPhone. Stay tuned as I will be keeping a close tab on Drunknbass’ demo and their development stage.

One step closer to making the jesusphone alot better. Awesome!
